2013-12-04 10:18:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) British Sky Broadcasting has made the Sky Store movie rental service available to everyone in the UK and Ireland. Any home with a broadband connection will be able to stream more than 1,200 titles instantly to their TV or laptop through the new website www.skystore.com, or on a NOW TV Box, Roku or YouView box. The move is part of a wider drive by Sky to broaden distribution of its content. The launch of www.skystore.com to anyone in the UK and Ireland follows growing demand for the rental service amongst Sky TV's own customers. Movie rentals through Sky Store on Sky's set-top box Sky+ have more than doubled year on year, with 2.1 million rentals in the three months ending 30 September.

(Telecompaper) BT has won the exclusive live broadcast rights to all 350 matches from both the Champions League and UEFA Europa League tournaments. The rights run for three seasons from 2015/2016. Both finals will be offered free on BT Sport, along with matches from earlier rounds. This is the first time a single UK broadcaster has won the exclusive live rights to all matches from both tournaments. BT has agreed to pay around GBP 299 million a season for the rights, and insists it can pay this without changing its current financial outlook. BT will pay a deposit of around GBP 60 million in November followed by six-monthly instalments from July 2015.
