US imports of cotton apparel have more resisted the sharp overall decline of the first quarter than man-made fiber apparel. A double-digit drop has been observed in many categories, with significant differences in results depending on products, however. US apparel imports from China have plunged further in the first quarter, with Vietnam becoming the largest supplier of the market in value terms. Shipments have declined from many origins, as a clear sign that US buyers do not wish to diversify their supplies.
