EU Clothing Imports in 1st Quarter 2018: Categories (Quarterly Report)

Imports have sharply rebounded to the European Union in the first quarter over a fall of unit prices due to a rebound of the European currencies against the US dollar. Product categories have behaved in very different ways, with T-shirts stagnating for instance whereas shipments of pullovers were surging. Our quarterly report covers EU imports in HS 4-digit knit and woven clothing categories. Statistical tables are published with volume, value and unit value changes in euro and US$ terms. The full table is also available for download with 5-year historical data from 1st quarter 2013-18.

EU clothing imports have surged from a series of specific origins in the first quarter this year whereas other countries were losing market shares due to a limited fall of their export prices in euro and pound terms. Sourcing strategies have been modified by the rebound of the euro with long-term trends however confirmed for a series of low-cost origins, as reflected by our comprehensive review covering the first quarter 2018 per origin. A large number of statistical tables are released, with volume, value and unit value changes in both euro and US$ terms. The 1st quarter tables are also available for download from 2013-2018.
