ScienceDaily: A new study by researchers at The University of Texas at Arlington finds a high likelihood that extreme storms and higher precipitation will lead to transportation disruption and widespread damage to roads, railways and airport runways in the Dallas-Fort Worth region by the end of the 21st century. The assessment found the risks to transportation infrastructure from storms are more likely to happen during the spring season. Hampton Roads coal exports plummet

For the first time in nearly four month, coal exports from a number of Hampton Roads terminals -- including Kinder Morgan's Pier IX and Dominion Terminal Associates in Newport News -- have dropped, according to a Virginian-Pilot report. The port's three large coal terminals, which also includes Norfolk Southern Corp.'s Pier 6 terminal at Lambert Point, exported 11 million tons from January through April, according to Norfolk-based shipping agent T. Parker Host.

Hampton Roads banks report record first-quarter profit

Chesapeake-based Monarch Bank plans to open its Peninsula headquarters at Newport News Tech Center early next year, CEO Brad E. Schwartz said. Monarch, which has offices near Williamsburg in New Town, plans to open a full-service banking branch and mortgage office in 8,000 square feet of an office building under construction near Whole Foods, the company announced last year.
