Amazon unveils new Fire tablet for USD 50

(Telecompaper) Amazon is updating its Fire tablets range, adding a new USD 50 model, as well as introducing new high-end and kids models. The new Fire tablet for USD 49.99 will go on sale at the end of September, including an offer of buy five, get one free. The low-cost tablet offers a 7-inch IPS display, quad-core 1.3 GHz processor, front- and rear-facing cameras and up to 128GB of expandable storage via microSD. It comes with the latest version of the Fire OS, named 'Bellini', which Amazon said updates the user interface to replicate the look and feel of a magazine when browsing apps and content. The new tablet also coincides with the launch of Amazon Underground, the online retailer's new storefront for apps and games. Amazon also announced the new Fire HD tablet, in 8- and 10-inch versions for respectively USD 149.99 and USD 229.99. These will also run the 'Bellini' OS and go on sale from 30 September. The Fire HD is Amazon's thinnest tablet yet, at 7.7mm, and and features two stereo speakers and an HD display with over 1 million pixels and 16:10 widescreen aspect ratio. It runs a MediaTek 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and supports up to 128 GB storage with a microSD card. Finally, Amazon announced a new Fire Kids Edition tablet. Launched a year ago at USD 149.99, the new version costs USD 99.99 and comes with the updated tablet, a kid-proof case, one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, 20,000 age-appropriate websites and YouTube videos, and a two-year guarantee.

The Seattle online retailer plans to release a $50 tablet with a 6-inch screen, in time for this year's holidays, according to people familiar with the matter. That would make it one of the least-expensive tablets on the market and half the price of the company's current Fire HD 6-inch tablet.

(Telecompaper) Amazon plans to release a 6-inch tablet costing only USD 50 in time for the holidays, people familiar with matter told the Wall Street Journal. At this price point, the new tablet will cost half as much as the current Fire HD 6-in tablet. The new product will have a mono speaker, rather than stereo, according to one of the persons. To keep costs low, much of the tablet's development was outsourced to Shanghai Huaqin Telecom Technology, Compal Communications and others. Neither would comment. Amazon will also launch 8-inch and 10-inch tablets this year.
Acer introduces Predator gaming tablet

(Telecompaper) Acer has presented at the IFA show in Berlin a new tablet dedicated to gaming, the Predator 8. This is part of a broader series of products under the name Predator for gamers, including also computers and monitors. The tablet features a full HD 8-inch screen, brushed aluminium body, Intel Atom x7 processor, Android 5.1 and MIMO 2x2 for optimised wireless connections. The 350-gram device comes with the Predator Quadio audio system with four speakers for surround sound, optional stylus, 64 GB internal storage and support for memory cards up to 128 GB. It will sell for a recommended price of EUR 349 in Europe and CNY 2,499 in China from October and come loaded with the Gameloft game Asphalt 8 with 320,000 game credits. In North America, the device will launch exclusively with Newegg for two weeks from 06 November, for USD 299.99, before going on sales at other retailers.
