Thousands of people marched in Indiana's largest city Saturday to protest a state law that supporters contend promotes religious freedom but detractors see as a covert move to support discrimination against gay people. Waving signs reading "No hate in our state" and carrying rainbow flags, a crowd of at least 2,000 people, including Democratic elected officials, rallied the same day that business-rating website Angie's List put on hold its plans to expand its Indianapolis operation, citing the new law.

A long-fought legal battle to recover $8.9 billion in damages from Exxon Mobil Corp. for the contamination and loss of use of more than 1,500 acres of wetlands, marshes, meadows and waters in northern New Jersey has been quietly settled by the state for around $250 million. Stakes were high, given the enormous cost experts placed on restoring and replacing the resources damaged by decades of oil refining and other petrochemical operations, as well as of the public's loss of use of the land.

When Berkeley became the first city in the nation in November to impose a soda tax, boosters predicted it would spawn copycat tax drives throughout the U.S. But detractors, led by the American Beverage Association, said quirky Berkeley is too far outside the mainstream to set a national trend. Who's right? Business briefs: Jimmy Choo to list shares on LSE in October

Luxury shoemaker Jimmy Choo has announced its intention to float its shares in London next month as part of an expansion drive, particularly in China. The designer label said Tuesday it plans to list at least a quarter of its shares on the London Stock Exchange in October.
