Apple Gets Litigious in China

Apple is suing China's State Intellectual Property Office and domestic company Zhizhen Network Technology over patent issues related to Siri, Apple's voice recognition software. The State Intellectual Property Office is responsible for patents rights protection in China, while Zhizhen developed software similar to Siri. Zhizhen patented its own voice recognition software, "Xiao i Robot," in 2004.

Apple retires Snow Leopard from support, leaves 1 in 5 Macs vulnerable to attacks

Apple on Tuesday made it clear that it will no longer patch OS X 10.6, aka Snow Leopard, when it again declined to offer a security update for the four-and-a-half-year-old operating system. As Apple issued an update for Mavericks, or OS X 10.9, as well as for its two predecessors, Mountain Lion (10.8) and Lion (10.7), Apple had nothing for Snow Leopard or its owners yesterday.

Apple patches critical OS X SSL bug with Mavericks update

Apple today updated OX Mavericks, plugging the embarrassing SSL security hole that the company left wide open in the operating system's implementation of basic Internet encryption. Mac users running Mavericks should update as soon as possible, as exploit code has already begun circulating on the Internet. Apple had the same flaw in iOS, which it patched over the weekend.
