Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, said the CEO of Burlington Northern Santa Fe told him a malfunctioning wheel caused the train derailment south of Galena. "BNSF, on its own, voluntarily, in a 1-year period of time, are going to get rid of the oldest tank cars, the ones that are most dangerous, the flimsiest," Durbin said.

A U.S. senator from Pennsylvania on Monday called for measures to provide resources and training to first responders who handle crude oil train derailments.
