Research at Google on Wednesday announced that AlphaGo has become the first computer software system to beat a human at the ancient game of Go. There are more possible positions in Go than there are the number of atoms in the universe, and it has a googol more positions than chess, Google pointed out. That complexity makes it difficult for computers to play Go.

J&J defeats first lawsuit on Tylenol's link to liver damage

Johnson & Johnson defeated a lawsuit claiming it had improperly designed its Tylenol pain reliever, in the first case to go to trial over the link between the widely used over-the-counter drug and liver damage. Jurors in New Jersey concluded that Regina Jackson, 55, who said she spent a week in the hospital after overdosing on the pain medication, failed to prove her case.

Bayer defeats FTC in dietary supplement contempt case

Bayer AG prevailed in a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission that accused the drugmaker's U.S. unit of making unsubstantiated claims about a dietary supplement marketed to promote digestion. In an order made public on Friday, U.S. District Judge Jose Linares in Newark, New Jersey refused to hold Bayer Corp in contempt for having allegedly violated a 2007 consent decree governing how it markets dietary supplements.
