Disney debuts Disney+ in US at USD 6.99, with aim of going global within 2 years

(Telecompaper) Disney will be launching its new Disney+ streaming service first in the US on 12 November, priced at USD 6.99 per month. The company will then quickly expand the subscription VOD service worldwide, with the goal of covering nearly all major regions within the coming two years. The plans were announced during the company's Investor Day.

Disney+ to rocket to 75 million subscribers

Disney has outlined its plans for its Disney+ SVOD platform. The company expects to reach 60-90 million Disney+ subscribers by 2024, with the US contributing a third. Digital TV Research forecasts 75 million subscribers by 2024 right in the middle of Disneys estimates.

(Telecompaper) Walt Disney closed its takeover of 21st Century Fox assets and the latter continued as Fox Corp. Alphabet's Google unveiled its streaming videogames platform Stadia and Comcast unveiled a new AVOD annex video aggregation service, Flex. Alphabet was further confronted with a number three fine from the EU, now EUR 1.49 billion over unfair competition with the Google AdSense platform. The Telecompaper Stock Index Global Consumer Media ended week 12 with a loss of 1.6 percent. The Dow Jones Industrials index lost 1.3 percent.
