Facebook in hot water over data gathering practices
2013-06-25 14:21:20| InfoWorld: Top News
As if admitting a data breach exposing personal information for 6 million of its members wasn't bad enough, now Facebook is facing growing ire over its data gathering practices. Last Friday, the social network announced it fixed a bug that affected about six million people that allowed some of its members to see additional information about their contacts when using Facebook's "Download Your Information" tool. The tool allows a person to download an archive copy of their Facebook account.

Facebook lets slip 6 mln e-mail addresses, phone numbers
2013-06-24 08:46:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Facebook admitted to having unintentionally shared approximately 6 million users' e-mail addresses and phone numbers with unauthorised viewers in the last year. The data leaks began in 2012 because of a technical glitch, according to the social network. Facebook users who downloaded contact information for their friends list received additional data they were not meant to have. Facebook, which has 1.1 billion users around the world, said it has no evidence that the vulnerability was exploited maliciously. It received no complaints nor does it evidence to suggest wrongdoing. Facebook nonetheless said it was 'upset and embarrassed' by the error.
