New tech cools batteries 50-80% more than liquid cooling

2013-04-23 18:30:49| Extremetech

It's common knowledge in the tech industry that the battery is the bottleneck that limits the potential of new devices. Either the battery can't provide a large enough amount of power, can't provide power long enough, can't recharge quickly enough, or some combination of those three. Another issue with batteries is that they can run too hot, which sometimes means their output must be limited for the sake of safety. Now, a new technology is able to cool batteries around 50-80% more than one of the most powerful types of cooling on the market, liquid cooling.

New type of solar structure cools buildings in full sunlight

ScienceDaily: A Stanford team has designed an entirely new form of cooling panel that works even when the sun is shining. Such a panel could vastly improve the daylight cooling of buildings, cars and other structures by radiating sunlight back into the chilly vacuum of space. Homes and buildings chilled without air conditioners. Car interiors that don't heat up in the summer sun. Tapping the frigid expanses of outer space to cool the planet. Science fiction, you say? Well, maybe not any more. A team of researchers...

Independent: Public concern about environmental issues including climate change has slumped to a 20-year low since the financial crisis, a global study reveals. Fewer people now consider issues such as CO2 emissions, air and water pollution, animal species loss, and water shortages to be very serious than at any time in the last two decades, according to the poll of 22,812 people in 22 countries including Britain and the US. Despite years of studies showing the impact of global warming on the planet,...

Australia: Hostility over climate change cools off

2013-02-11 11:24:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

AAP: Venomous attacks against the scientific community have markedly decreased since the introduction of Labor's carbon pricing scheme, one of Australia's leading climate change experts says. Professor Will Steffen, science adviser to the Department of Climate Change, also told senators on Monday that extreme weather events this summer weren't normal but "a climate on steroids". Labor senator Doug Cameron told Professor Steffen he'd detected a drop in the public "venom" against climate change in...
