Airtel Africa plans tower sales to reduce USD 3.5 bln debt

(Telecompaper) Airtel Africa plans to sell about 4,500 telecommunication towers in five countries including Tanzania and Madagascar to help reduce USD 3.5 billion of debt and prepare for bond repayments, Bloomberg reported. The operator is also disposing of mobile masts in Gabon, Malawi and Chad, CEO Raghunath Mandava told Bloomberg in an interview. Mandava said Airtel is constantly seeking to bring down debt, and prefers to do so even faster with the tower deals.

Airtel Africa revenue rises 11% in H1, customers up 12%

(Telecompaper) Airtel Africa's revenue increased by 10.7 percent to USD 1.81 billion in the first six months to 30 September from USD 1.64 billion in the same period in 2019. Revenue growth in constant currency was 16.4 percent in H1. The customer base grew by 12.0 percent to 116.4 million and data customers increased by 21.1 percent to 39.6 million from 31.9 million in 2019.
