Additionally, Terma is contracted for the development and delivery of software and hardware systems and services for numerous ongoing and future European, and international missions. Terma Space operates out of Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, and the UK. Job description Within the Operations and Services to Users Department of EUMETSAT, the Flight Operations Division FLO is responsible for conducting space system flight operations, flight dynamics, mission analysis and mission control safely to maximize the mission return. Within FLO, the Flight Dynamics Team is responsible for the Flight Dynamics operations of four geostationary satellites MTP, MSG1,2,3 and two Low Earth Orbiting satellites MetopA,B. The Flight Dynamics Team also supports the operations preparation of the 4th MSG satellite MSG4, planned to be launched in summer 2015, and of the first Sentinel3 satellite S3A planned to be launched in autumn 2015 moreover Flight Dynamics and Mission Analysis support is provided for the MTG, EPSSG and JasonCS satellites, which are currently under development. We are looking for experienced Flight Dynamics engineers to support the flight dynamics routine operations of the inflight EPS satellites MetopA and MetopB as well as the preparation and after launch execution of Flight Dynamics operations for future Low Earth Orbiting satellites MetopC, Sentinel3, EPSSG, JasonCS. Flight Dynamics support to the operations of the inflight geostationary satellites and to the preparation of future geostationary satellites MTG may also be required, as well as support to Precise Orbit Determination operations. Responsibilities The Flight Dynamics Engineer will work on tasks such as Execution of the routine operations of the EPS Flight Dynamics Facility, including spacecraft orbit determination and propagation, events and ground station visibility predictions, Attitude and Orbit Control System AOCS telecommand generation and telemetry monitoring Planning and execution of EPS spacecrafts maneuvers, as well as of their evaluation, thruster calibration and maintenance of the fuel budgets estimates Support to the contingency operation of EPS spacecrafts, including preparation and execution of conjunction avoidance maneuvers, recovery of routine operations, safe mode support and operation transfer to the BackUp Control Centre these activities may require intervention during the night and the nonworking days Operational quality control of maneuvers and AOCS telecommands before uplink and execution onboard of the EPS spacecraft Preparation and maintenance of Flight Dynamics operational procedures for spacecraft routine, special and contingency operations, operational configuration maintenance and system management Performance analysis of the EPS Flight Dynamics System, specially focusing on the monitoring of the input to the processing of meteorological products, and implementation of enhancements as required Perform system level analyses needed for the refinement of the Flight Dynamics algorithms and optimisation of the operational configuration and implementation of enhancements as required for the EPS missions Preparation and production of routine reports as necessary Tasks in the area of preparation and of Flight Dynamics operations for future Low Earth Orbiting satellites will typically include Support to the ground segment development and operational preparation activities in the area of Flight Dynamics prior to launch of a new LEO satellite EPS, Sentinel3, EPSSG and JasonCS FD database preparation, definition of operational procedures, generation of related operational configuration data and participation to operational validation of satellite and groundsegment operations Support Flight Dynamics activities during launch and commissioning for the new LEO satellite EPS, Sentinel3, EPSSG and JasonCS startup of FD system and initialization of FD operational data, assessment of handover conditions, inflight validation of FD performances and transition to routine operations Review of spacecraft and groundsegment technical documentation and participation in formal reviews Perform required mission and system analysis studies, preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings Execution of Flight Dynamics routine operations after the launch of a new satellite, similarly to what above described for the EPS satellites This is a fulltime position in Darmstadt, Germany with a planned starting date in January 2016. Working time is normal working hours, and may require standby and oncall support outside normal working hours. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have an university degree, in a relevant engineering discipline or other suitable qualification together with at least 5 years experience in Flight Dynamics of a LEO satellite. Essential skills are Knowledge of the analytical principles for orbit determination and control Experience with the routine operations of operational flight dynamics systems for LEO satellites Experience with the development of operational flight dynamics systems for LEO satellites fluency in English spoken and written, as English is the working language Desirable skills are Familiarity with the AOCS of Low Earth orbiting satellites Experience with conjunction analysis systems Familiarity with configuration control practices for operational software Skills in the area of software development and validation Experience with one or more of the following Fortran, C, TCL, Java Familiarity with statistical and graphical analysis tools Experience with operational flight dynamics systems for GEO satellites or with operational Precise Orbit Determination systems Knowledge of French You must be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, demonstrating analytical approach and attention to detail and shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. A vacancy for a Future Missions Head of Earth Observation Group has arisen within the Airbus Defence and Space in Stevenage. You will be responsible for all EO mission related prospects and studies. Airbus Defence and Space Ltd is looking for a highly motivated and capable scientistengineer to lead the Future Missions Earth Observation Group, based in Stevenage. The successful candidate will provide leadership to a small expert group of professional scientists and engineers in undertaking the design and analysis of spaceborne systems, primarily for Earth Observation missions. In addition to leading the Group, the role will include work on a range of activities including mission and satellite system analysis and design, research and development activities, marketing and customer interfacing. Typical EO programmes of interest include the ESA Earth Explorer programme, ESAEU Global Monitoring for Environment and Security GMES, Eumetsat meteorology mission and national opportunities. This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities. Your mains responsibilities will be You will be responsible for all EO mission related prospects and studies, You will also be expected to develop overall business strategies within Airbus Defence and Space Ltd in relation to these missions including close coordination with Sales and Marketing, and define and lead associated RD activities. You will be responsible for tracking all EO prospects, contributing to bidnobid decisions, and will be required to take a leading role in proposals. Furthermore, you will be responsible for monitoring and guiding the management of all EO mission studies, including overall responsibility for the financial performance of studies. The successful candidate should have the aptitude and motivation to lead a small and dedicated team, to continue development of a world class capability in the design of future EO missions. Heshe will be expected to develop a productive relationship with EO scientists and other parts of the space community, through attendance at and contributions to meetings, workshops and conferences. This role will involve some travels for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly monthly travels in UK and Europe. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Educated to a University degree in Physics, degree in Engineering, specialised in Electric, aerospace, mechanical or Physics, Indepth experience at industry or postgraduate level in space systems including Earth Observation. A Ph.D. or M.Sc. in an appropriate subject is advantageous. Good understanding of Earth Observation applications and instrumentation is required, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with spacecraft and space systems engineers.
