N Pacific's tropical anoxic zone might shrink from climate change

ScienceDaily: Contrary to conventional wisdom, new research indicates the eastern tropical northern Pacific's anoxic zone was shrinking for most of the 20th century before beginning to expand in about 1990. Because trade wind intensity is expected to diminish in coming decades owing to climate change, a result may well be the contraction of the ocean's largest anoxic zone. Miami Herald: Gov. Rick Scott has agreed to meet with scientists about climate change for 30 minutes Aug. 19th, said Susan Glickman, a clean energy lobbyist during a conference call this morning organized by a liberal group Florida for All. Intrepid Papua New Guinea woman leads relocation of island community hit by climate change

Reuters: Ursula Rakova was born in a tropical paradise. The tiny, low-lying islet of Han is part of the Carteret Atoll in the southwest Pacific, with clear blue waters lapping at its palm-fringed shores. Fish was plentiful and so was taro, the staple food. The atoll community is matrilineal, and Rakova's mother passed ownership of Han islet to her -- but the island paradise is disappearing, one of the first places to fulfil scientists' predictions that climate change will submerge many coastal communities....
