Reuters: Most of the 29 whales trapped in an Indonesian mangrove swamp on Thursday managed to free themselves or were gently helped out to sea as the tide rose, fisheries officials said. Villagers on the east of Java island helped fisheries staff free the pilot whales that became trapped at low tide. "Today, of the 29 beached whales, seven died, four were helped back out to sea and 18 were able to swim back themselves," the World Wildlife Fund said in a statement. Second deadly quake hits southern Japan, rescuers race against time

A powerful 7 point 3 magnitude earthquake struck southern Japan today, killing at least 16 people, injuring hundreds more and trapping people in collapsed buildings, barely a day after a quake killed nine people in the same region. Rescuers dug through the rubble of collapsed buildings and mud and debris today to try and reach those trapped, but continued aftershocks hindered rescue efforts and fuelled fears of more powerful quakes.

Shark Attack, Then Eel Attack Keep Hawaiian Rescuers Busy
