Spark New Zealand and the Canterbury Mayoral Forum announced today that Spark will fast-track its rollout of fast 4G wireless technology to enable fast broadband services across rural Canterbury. Spark is investing $14 million in an accelerated programme that within the next 12 months will see Spark's 4G services covering 96% of the places rural Cantabrians live and work.

Dec 7 Satellite group Avanti Communications won a contract with BT to help supply broadband services to British homes that have slow connections on terrestrial networks. The company said on Monday that up to 300,000 homes that could not access speeds greater than 2Mbps would be eligible to receive a contribution from the government to fund the installation of satellite broadband, with the consumer then paying monthly service charges.

Dutch broadband penetration per household reaches 92.5%

(Telecompaper) The Dutch broadband market continued to grow during the third quarter of 2015, leading to a household penetration of 92.5 percent at the end of September, according to the Dutch Broadband 2015 Q3 report from Telecompaper. Compared with the end of September 2014, the penetration increased with 2.4 percentage points. The broadband market ended Q3 2015 with a total 7.093 million mass market connections, growing by 1.0 percent during the quarter. The growth came as usual from fibre and was supported by growing broadband via cable connections, following a rare quarterly loss for cable broadband in the second quarter.
