Eutelsat takes new CEO from Canal Plus

(Telecompaper) Eutelsat has announced the resignation of CEO Michel de Rosen from March, with Rodolphe Belmer elected to succeed from the same date. De Rosen will remain as non-executive chairman of the board of directors until the end of his current mandate in November 2016, at which point his mandate will be submitted to the annual shareholders meeting for renewal. In order to ensure a smooth transition, Belmer will join Eutelsat on 1 December as deputy CEO alongside Michel Azibert, the company's deputy CEO and chief commercial and development officer. He will be proposed as a member of Eutelsat's board at the company's AGM. Belmer comes from Groupe Canal+, where he is CEO.
Facebook, Eutelsat to Use Satellites to Spread Net Across Sub-Saharan Africa

Facebook and Eutelsat have entered a partnership to leverage satellite technology to provide Internet access to remote parts of sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative, which includes a multiyear agreement with Spacecom, will utilize the entire broadband payload on the future AMOS-6 satellite as the backbone of a dedicated system that will include satellite capacity, gateways and terminals.

Eutelsat, Facebook to partner to get more Africans online

(Telecompaper) Eutelsat and Facebook have announced they are partnering on a new initiative that will use satellite technology to get more Africans online. Under a multi-year agreement with Spacecom, the two companies will utilise the entire broadband payload on the future AMOS-6 satellite and will build a dedicated system comprising satellite capacity, gateways and terminals. It is scheduled for start of service in the second half of 2016.

Zimbabwe buys satellite capacity from Eutelsat

According to newspaper reports, Zimbabwe has bought satellite capacity from Eutelsat to guarantee universal availability of digital broadcasting. The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe has also purchased 400,000 set-top boxes from a Chinese manufacturer.
