September 2014 PERIOD 2 years 2 options for extension, each option stands for 1 year LOCATION Darmstadt TYPE OF BUSINESS Science CONTRACT fulltime employment WORKING LANGUAGE English, French is considered an advantage DEADLINE 14.07.2014 MUSTHAVE SKILLS MANDATORY In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline, the key person shall demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the area of simulator software maintenance, evolution and testing as well as space segment requirements and design with the following mandatory areas 1. Domain Skills Experience minimum 3 years in software maintenance and evolution of Spacecraft Simulators based on SIMULUS software suite from ESAESOC. In particular, experience in all the following SIMULUS components is considered mandatory SIMSAT, Ground Models, Generic Models, REFA, Emulator Suite and tailoring, UMFEGOSMF Experience minimum 3 years in the definition and design of SMP2 compliant software models of spacecraft service platform subsystems. Knowledge and understanding of space related standards ECSS and CCSDS with specific reference to ECSSE7041A TM and TC packet utilization. 2. Software Development Maintenance Skills Experience minimum 3 years in the full cycle of development of application software for SIMULUS based simulator, following formal software engineering processes. This includes system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design and implementation reflecting maintenance activities as well as new applications definition. Experience minimum 3 years in corrective maintenance, integration and verification testing activities of application software following formal software engineering processes. This includes requirement verification, generation of test plan and test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of test tools, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, and anomaly tracking, investigation, correction and testing. Experience in defining automatic testing suites at unit and components integration level. 3. Software Engineering Skills Experience minimum 3 years in developing and maintaining software applications using Java and C programming languages under UNIX operating systems and development and maintenance of JavaScript scripts SIMULUS scripting technology. Experience minimum 3 years in developing and maintaining software applications using objectoriented technologies, Unified Modeling Language UML for software design and CASE design tools like Magic Draw. NICETOHAVE SKILLS CONSIDERED AS AN ADVANTAGE 4. Domain Skills Experience with MICONYSESOC components SCOS2000, NIS and SLE API. Experience on TMTC front ends like CORTEX Experience with software support to operations and in particular to TMTC database and OBSW images import 5. System Maintenance Skills Experience with technical management of contractors working at offsite premises and responsible for application software evolution and maintenance. 6. Software Technology Skills IBM DOORS requirement management tool. Experience in version Control Systems CVS and SVN. Linux Operating System. Interprocess communication mechanisms, in particular TCPIP and CORBA standards. XML processing schema design and validation. Eclipse Rich Client Platform applications development and maintenance. Experience with static and dynamic software analysis tools in support to testing and troubleshooting. TASKS The key person shall work in the TSS Department with the Mission Control Applications and Tools Team, which is part of the GSI Division. The Mission Control Applications and Tools Team performs the following activities Software engineering and software maintenance of multimission and missionspecific Mission Control Function systems and tools for GEO and LEO missions. In particular the following systems and tools Monitoring Control Systems and tools, Onboard software management tools, Flight Dynamics Facilities, Mission Planning Facilities, OpsPrep Facilities, Data analysis and reporting tools, Software engineering for the reusage of Mission Control Function systems and tools with the separation between generic kernel and missionspecific extensions. Automation of application software testing. Software engineering and software maintenance of satellite simulators. Ground Segment Reference Architecture Software support to operations. The key person will provide hisher prime support to the evolution and maintenance of the Spacecraft Simulators in general and in particular to SIMULUS based simulators. The tasks of the key person will typically include Maintenance and Evolution Activities a. Preventive and corrective maintenance including the investigation and correction or following the corrections implemented by external contractors of anomalies in the software facilities and verification testing of the fixes. b. Evolutions and changes generation andor analysis of userdriven and maintenancedriven software requirements, software design of the technical solutions, following the procurement of the changes with external contractors and verification testing of the changes. c. Maintenance test procedures generation and updates of maintenance test procedures at software facility level and at system level. d. Support and development of the verification infrastructure development andor procurement of scripts tools to perform installation checks, nonregression, functional and performance testing. Analysis and implementation of mechanisms or tools allowing the automatic or semiautomatic verification testing of the application software. e. Coordination of the production of new software releases or patches, delivery acceptance and installation onsite. This activity includes the technical coordination of the production by an external contractor of new releases or patches of the application software, liaison with the operational users, participation to technical reviews, participation to infactory at contractor premises acceptance testing campaigns and coordination of the installation of the releases or patches onsite. f. Execution and coordination of software verification and nonregression testing campaigns. This activity includes preparation of test data, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, analysis of results and troubleshooting of problems. User Support g. Software support software support to the endusers of the application software. h. Ensure operations continuity by provision of oncall services and software support to operations. i. Training prepare and provide training covering systemusage and maintenance aspects of the mission control systems. Technical Management j. Documentation generation and updates of technical documents. k. Meeting participation participation to technical, progress and team meetings as needed and requested. l. Routine reporting preparation and production of routine reports as necessary. m. Contractor management at technical level acting as point of contact with the contractor for technical discussions, organizing periodical technical meetings with the contractor. n. Critical review of industry provided requirements and design definition related to existing andor future simulators spacecraft models and simulator infrastructure components. Software engineering framework support o. Analysis activities focused on a common software engineering framework for the GSI Mission Control Applications and Tools Team. p. JOB DESCRIPTION LISA Pathfinder LPF is the technology demonstrator for the LISA mission and its primary goal is to demonstrate the critical technologies needed for LISA. A new opportunity has arisen for a Spacecraft Operations Engineer to support primarily service in the Data Handling, TTC OBSM for Galileo LEOP. The Galileo LEOP operations preparation and execution will be carried out by a Flight Control Team comprising CNES and ESOC engineers. The plan is for LEOPs to take place either in Darmstadt or Toulouse, with the complete team involved in each LEOP preparation and partial team taking part in the LEOP at each site. Typical tasks and responsibilities will include Data Handling, TTC, onboard software and OBSM operations engineer Close interaction and working with the other Galileo LEOP SOEs, based at ESOC and CNES Review of documentation produced by the Galileo spacecraft manufacturer SSEG Review of the procedures created by SSEG Review of the procedures created by OPS Development of LEOP specific nominal and contingency recovery operating procedures using the MOIS tools Providing specialist subsystemadvice on the development and content of the Operational Database Development of tools to manage the Data Handling and TTCsubsystems during LEOP in particular ANDs, GRDs, mimics and offline tools Validation of procedures using the Galileo Constellation Simulator CSIM and the Galileo LEOP specific SCOS2000 based control system LSCCF Preparation for and participation in the SCTCs SVTs. This will also involve the preparation of SCTC specific procedures and the writing of SCTC reports Identification, recording, investigation and progression of spacecraft and groundbased anomalies during the SCTCs, simulations campaign and LEOP Preparation for and participation in the simulations campaign Assistance to the simulations officer to provided specialist subsystemknowledge for the simulations campaign Participation in the LEOP. This will involve shiftworking to provide 24 hour support to the spacecraft Support Handover and postLEOP activities, including contribution to the LEOP report. Applicants will require spacecraft subsystem knowledge and good knowledge of Data Handling and TTC subsystems. Ground Segment knowledge and good knowledge of OBSM is required. Applicants will need good operational experience, along with a familiarity with SCOS2000, operational simulators and experience with prelaunch activities, launch campaigns and with MOIS tools. All candidates should have a University degree in a relevant discipline and be fluent in English. Candidates should have experience with ground system testing and be familiar with PC based MS tools. This role will require regular travel within Europe estimated 100 days per year
