RESPONSIBILITIES The Instructor, Space Systems EngineeringAstronautical Engineer is responsible for leading multidisciplinary space systems engineering efforts towards the design, development, and testing of nano, micro, and small satellite systems. The primary tasks are research and development in the architecture, design and evolution of small satellite systems with an emphasis in control systems, Guidance, Navigation and Control GNC, Attitude Determination and Control Systems ADCS, and associated embedded systems development. The primary responsibility is related to the support of the Center research agenda by participating in, managing, and developing research projects involving other faculty and student researchers in development of these systems and to serve as a design and managing engineer of the small satellite systems. Toward this end, the Instructor, Space Systems EngineeringAstronautical Engineer will be responsible for serving as a system lead engineer on NASA and DoD contracts and will lead design efforts and reviews requirements reviews, engineering design reviews, etc. and will develop documentation related to these processes and reviews. The Instructor, Space Systems EngineeringAstronautical Engineer will also develop grant and contract proposals, lead technical interchange efforts with partners government and private aerospace sector and lead the systems development and delivery of hardware and software products related to grantcontract deliverables. The Instructor, Space Systems EngineeringAstronautical Engineer will also have a teaching responsibility of up to six contact hours per semester as needed. REQUIREMENTS The Instructor, Space Systems EngineeringAstronautical Engineer will hold a Masters andor Ph.D. in astronautical engineering, space science, space systems, or related discipline. The candidate should have skills in using software packages for mathematical analysis such as MatLab, Mathcad, STK, GMAT, 42, etc. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience in research in astronautical engineering, space science, space systems, or related discipline is preferred and an established record of publication in refereed journals is desired. Additional qualifications include experience in satellite or other space systems development or satellite mission support. Experience in grants and contract development from federal agencies is desirable. Postgraduate research experience andor experience in space systems design in either government or the private sector is also required. Ideally, the candidate should have a strong background in numerical modeling and a knowledge of embedded systems. Knowledge of softwarebased control system modules. GSA AND THE PROJECT CONTROL DEPARTMENT The European GNSS Agency GSA is responsible for operations, service provision, security and market development for the European Global Navigation Satellite Systems GNSS EGNOS and Galileo. By developing a new generation of GNSS, Europe is laying the foundation for the development of new hightech industry, leading to job creation and economic growth. In this context the Project Control Department and Quality handles all matters related to project control, cost engineering, quality and risk management. The Department proactively contributes to the fulfilment of GSA mission, particularly by providing support to the Galileo, EGNOS and other strategic EU programmes together with corporate planning and programming, and supporting the administrative management of the GSA Administrative Board. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The job holder will join the Cost Engineering Team within the Project Control Department and Quality. Hisher main tasks and responsibilities will in principle include Contributing to the maintenance and further development of the Cost Engineering processes and tools required to support the management of the EU programmatic tasks entrusted to the GSA and internal activities in line with the applicable rules and best practices.
