F5 buys fraud prevention specialist Shape Security for USD 1 bln

(Telecompaper) F5 Networks has agreed to acquire fraud prevention specialist Shape Security for USD 1 billion, subject to certain adjustments. Under the deal, F5 will buy all of the shares of privately held Shape and then incorporate the company's machine learning and AI-powered capabilities into its portfolio of application services. F5 noted that the transaction will accelerate its growth momentum and more than double its addressable market in security. F5 CEO Francois Locoh-Donou explained: the companies will together deliver end-to-end application protection and that their combined technologies will open up a "fast-growing USD 4 billion adjacent market."

Intel buys Israeli AI chip specialist Habana Labs for USD 2 bln

(Telecompaper) Intel has bought Israeli AI chip startup Habana Labs for USD 2 billion, following reports the sale would run to USD 1 billion. The startup, which develops programmable deep learning accelerators, will become part of Intel's artificial intelligence (AI) portfolio and push the company's efforts in the AI silicon market, which Intel expects will be worth over USD 25 billion by 2024.

Reliance Jio confirms deal to sell 130,000 towers to Brookfield for USD 3.7 bln

(Telecompaper) India's Reliance Industries has confirmed a deal to sell the towers network of its mobile unit Jio to Brookfield Infrastructure Partners. After a preliminary agreement in June, the companies announced a definitive contract for the acquisition of approximately 130,000 communication towers by Brookfield for USD 3.7 billion (INR 252.15 billion).

Ericsson pays over USD 1 bln to resolve bribery charges in the US

(Telecompaper) Ericsson has agreed to pay USD 520.6 million and USD 458.4 million (plus pre-judgement interest of USD 81.5 million) to settle bribery charges brought by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), for a total of over USD 1 billion. CEO Borje Ekholm said the Ericsson can move forward and build a stronger company.

Ericsson sees 2.6 bln 5G subscriptions worldwide by end-2025

(Telecompaper) Ericsson has published its November Mobility Report, saying that it expects the number of 5G subscriptions worldwide to reach 2.6 billion within the next six years. It expects 5G to cover 65 percent of the global population by the end of 2025 and handle 45 percent of all mobile data.
