O2 takes most spectrum as UK 5G auction raises GBP 1.36 billion

Here, companies who won spectrum will bid to see where in the frequency bands their new spectrum will be located. When that stage closes, winners will get their licenses within a few days. The licences run for 20 years and then are convertible to perpetual licences.

Apple to acquire Shazam for GBP 300 million - report

(Telecompaper) Apple is set to acquire music recognition app Shazam for a reported GBP 300 million, writes the Sunday Times. The takeover, which could be confirmed as early as this week, would be Apple's largest in the UK. Shazam investors are likely to be unhappy with the price as the company was valued at USD 1 billion (GBP 750 million) in 2015.

Arqiva abandons plans for GBP 1.5 billion float

(Telecompaper) UK communications infrastructure and media services company Arqiva has abandoned plans to proceed with an IPO, citing market uncertainty. The company announced plans to finally float the business on the London Stock Exchange on 23 October, with directors expressing the hope that the GBP 1.5 billion offer would allow the group to reduce its outstanding debt by GBP 0.6 billion and cut the associated interest costs by around GBP 57 million on a full year basis.

Canyon Bridge buys Imagination for GBP 550 mln

(Telecompaper) Canyon Bridge's CBFI Investment has agreed to buy Imagination, in a cash transaction valued at GBP 550 million. The company put itself up for sale in June, after starting a sales process for its MIPS and Ensigma operations in May. The decisions were taken after news in April that Apple stopped using Imagination as a supplier.
