The successful applicants will join the System Design Team. You will be accountable for leading a multidiscipline engineering development team to deliver system elements to meet project objectives for Time Cost Performance Compliance. You will be typically responsible for Engineering deliveries between C0 project commitment and C4 design qualified gates, for Defining the scope of work for specific workpackages, including resource needs defined in terms of skills and quantities, The technical assurance of the development, both in terms of ensuring that the development is compliant to the requirements and architecture as set out by the System Architect and that it is carried out in accordance with the processes and procedures as agreed with the Chief Engineer, Ensuring that disparate specialist engineering functions are directed and coordinated to efficiently deliver work packages as required, including managing engineering dependencies, risks and issues. The successful candidate will be subject to security clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your will ensure that All engineering development both internal and external is effectively planned, coordinated and carried out in line with the System Engineering Management Plan and in line with the Business Management System, Subject matter experts and multiple disciplines are coordinated to deliver an overall coherent engineering solution in line with the defined system architecture, The design approach selected reduces risk and cost, and timescales align with programme wide engineering solutions, Progress is managed through coordinating and defining engineering reviews compliant with the company processes, The solutions developed take into account the wider programme aims for component reuse, The engineering perspective is considered by the project manager in their decision making and actions, A clear definition of estimated, planned and actual engineering costs headcount and capital investment is established, duration and resources mapped to the work breakdown structure, taking into account the required engineering organisation, Appropriate change controls are applied to engineering work packages and engineering requirements, Engineering risk is identified and managed effectively, The engineering design is fully supported in terms of adequate documentation models. The successful applicants will have the following skills and experience Educated to Degree Level or equivalent in an engineering IT Essential Experience Must be an experienced engineer, with a successful track record of leading complex softwarehardware product development, integration and qualification Must have experience of systems design implementation for data communications products in commercial or military environments. Must have experience of embedded software development utilising bespoke hardware. Must be familiar with process driven software development Must have experience of the full project lifecycle. Essential Skills Must be highly selfmotivated, articulate, with good verbal and written communications skills Must have an excellent understanding of work package definition, estimation and planning Must have excellent team leadership skills, with evidence of skills in negotiation and conflict resolution Desirable Skills Experience of cryptographic product development Experience of Requirements Management e.g. using DOORS. Experience of the use and application of project management tools e.g. Microsoft Project Experience with datavoice communications protocols eg networking, network management, VOIP Experience in developing embedded software for network devices. Experience of technically directing engineering development subcontract work Experience of design for manufacture software test, productionisation of the hardware design. VN1526 Within the Geostationary Programmes Division of our Programme Preparation and Development Department, you will be responsible for coordinating all technical activities for developing the Ground Segment of our future Meteosat Third Generation satellite system and be the deputy of the Ground Segment Manager. You will also liaise with industrial teams developing the mission operations, data processing and ground station facilities, support integration and verification testing, identify and mitigate risks and contribute to programme planning and costing. Following handover of the Ground Segment to operations, you will also play an important part during validation and commissioning at ground segment and MTG system levels. Qualified to degree level in computer science or electronic engineering, you will bring proven experience of Earth Observation Ground Segment systems specification, design, implementation, integration and testing. Most importantly, you will be familiar with supporting the full Ground Segment lifecycle, including preparation for the commissioning and routine operations phase, skilled in following formal standards and documented processes, and capable of teamwork as well as acting as technical authority over specialist teams of the Ground Segment.
