After coal plant outage, utility challenged over charges

NorthWestern Energy makes its case to state regulators Tuesday in a dispute over at least $8.5 million that the utility collected from Montana customers after a 2013 power plant outage. The South Dakota-based utility said in filings with the state Public Service Commission that the charges were needed to offset costs for replacement power bought on the open market.

Conservative think tank attacks NV Energy plan to build new power plant

The Beacon Hill Institute, a conservative think tank backed by the Koch brothers, released a report Monday condemning a new, $1 billion natural gas plant proposed by NV Energy. The institute, based at Suffolk University in Boston, said building the new plant could cost consumers $604 million by 2025 and that a new power plant could cost Nevada more than 1,600 jobs and $18 million of private investment.
