Adobe Systems released a critical security update for Flash Player that fixes 12 security vulnerabilities, but pushed back its planned patches for Reader and Acrobat by a week. The Flash Player updates, available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, address nine vulnerabilities that could lead to remote code execution and three that can allow attackers to bypass security features, including memory address randomization and the same-origin policy.

Tibco going up against Oracle, IBM and Adobe with new customer engagement platform

Add Tibco to the list of vendors pushing a full stack of so-called "customer engagement" software, which companies use to track and analyze consumer behavior in hopes of building deeper relationships with them and ultimately, selling more products and services. Tibco Engage, announced Monday, is a SaaS (software as a service) package that builds on the vendor's Loyalty Lab product for customer loyalty programs. Also in the mix is Tibco's event-processing technology, capabilities for social networking and communities, and connections to third-party sales and marketing systems.

Adobe slates critical Reader security update for Tuesday

Adobe yesterday said it would issue security updates next week for its PDF viewer Reader as well as for Acrobat, its PDF creator, to fix critical flaws in the software on Windows and Apple's OS X. But it won't be updating Flash Player, its ultra-popular media playing program. If that holds through the end of the month -- if Adobe does not have to issue an "out-of-cycle," or emergency patch -- it would be a first for 2014.

Adobe Systems has released security patches for its Flash Player, Reader and Acrobat products, addressing a total of eight vulnerabilities, including one that is being exploited by attackers. The actively exploited flaw affects Adobe Reader and was found by researchers from antivirus vendor Kaspersky Lab. The flaw was being used in isolated attacks, they said.
