Singtel launches 5G network in Singapore, offers free trial to 20,000 customers

(Telecompaper) Singapore operator Singtel has launched its 5G non-standalone (NSA) network and introduced a 3-month trial for its residential and enterprise customers. Singtel says its network is capable of delivering 5G speeds of more than 1Gbps, by harnessing the 3.5GHz frequency band from the operator's newly expanded spectrum holdings as well as existing 2,100MHz spectrum and using dual connectivity. The Singtel 5G service will initially cover areas such as Harbourfront, Bugis and Dhoby Ghaut.

MTN launches first 5G network at 100 sites in South Africa

(Telecompaper) MTN South Africa has officially launched its 5G network, a first for its 21 operations across Africa and the Middle East. The 5G network covers areas of Johannesburg and Cape Town, as well as Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth.

Vodacom launches first live 5G network in Africa

(Telecompaper) Vodacom announced it has switched on Africa's first live 5G mobile network, in the South African cities Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town. Further rollout is planned to cover other parts of the country. The network will support both mobile and fixed wireless services and is currently available on twenty live 5G sites, eighteen of which are in Gauteng and two in Cape Town. With immediate effect, Vodacom customers with 5G enabled devices, and within a 5G coverage area, can access the new service.
