AWS to open three data centres in Spain by 2022

(Telecompaper) Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced plans to open three new data centre hosting facilities in Spain to help local and EU customers meet data capacity demand as well as residency and privacy requirements. The decision means Spain will become the company's seventh infrastructure region in Europe alongside France, Germany, Ireland, the UK, Sweden and Italy when it opens in late 2022 or early 2023. AWS currently has 69 "Availability Zones" or data centres across 22 infrastructure regions worldwide.

Telecom Italia considering spin-off and IPO of data centres - report

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) is mulling a possible spin-off and listing of its data centre business, according to an unnamed source cited by Reuters that confirmed an earlier report from Bloomberg. The intention is to put the business into a separate unit before launching an initial public offering at some point next year, said the report, adding that the move could value the business around EUR 1 billion.

Digital Realty sells US data centres to Mapletree Investments for USD 1.4 bln

(Telecompaper) Digital Realty announced an agreement to sell 13 data centres to Singapore-based property developer Mapletree Investments and its affiliate Mapletree Industrial Trust for a total of USD 1.4 billion. Mapletree will buy ten existing data centres and an 80 percent stake in a joint venture to operate three additional sites in the US.
