(Telecompaper) The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) announced the first phase of Wi-Fi 6E trials showing multi-gigabit speeds and low-latency connections using the new 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi. The trials used Wi-Fi 6E-capable mobile platforms and laptop equipment enabled by WBA members Broadcom and Intel.

Hughes and Telecomm to install 4,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in Mexico

(Telecompaper) Hughes Network Systems (Hughes) is teaming up with state-owned operator Telecomm to deploy hotspots powered by Facebook Connectivity's Express Wi-Fi platform in as many as 4,000 rural communities in Mexico. The rollout is part of Telecomm's plan to bring affordable internet to all parts of the country under the Federal Government Connectivity and Social Coverage Programmes.

Apple, Broadcom ordered to pay CalTech USD 1.1 bln in Wi-Fi patent case

(Telecompaper) The California Institute of Technology has prevailed in a patent infringement case launched against Apple and Broadcom, who have been ordered to pay a total USD 1.1 billion in damages, Reuters reports. In a case filed in federal court in Los Angeles back in 2016, the Pasadena-based research university claimed that Broadcom Wi-Fi chips used in millions of Apple iPhones infringed patents relating to data transmission technology. The federal jury awarded CalTech USD 837.8 million from Apple and USD 270.2 million from Broadcom.
