Dish Network Corp. affiliates put down $10 billion to win wireless network frequency licenses in the federal government's just-closed frequency auction, nearly matching what mobile phone giant Verizon Communications bid and only being topped by AT&T Inc. in the spectrum grab. Overall, the Federal Communications Commission auction attracted $44.9 billion in winning bids, $18.2 billion from AT&T, $10.4 billion from Verizon and the $10 billion bid by two groups formed by Douglas County-based Dish , its founder and chairman Charlie Ergen and other investors.
