Google Fiber expands with takeover of Webpass

(Telecompaper) Google is expanding its fibre network in the US with the acquisition of San Francisco operator Webpass. Google said the deal will help accelerate the deployment of fast internet connections for customers across the US. Webpass will remain focused on rapid deployment of high-speed connections for residential and commercial buildings, primarily using point-to-point wireless. The transaction is expected to close this summer, subject to regulatory approvals. Webpass already has tens of thousands of customers across five major markets in the US.

RingCentral integrates Google apps with office communication

(Telecompaper) RingCentral announced a partnership with Google to integrate Google apps in its RingCentral Office cloud communications platform for businesses. The new offering, called RingCentral Office Google Edition, costs USD 30 per user per month and includes Google Apps Unlimited with unlimited storage and a new edition of RingCentral Office with WebRTC that integrates with Google Apps and Google Hangouts. The company said the platform will provide "richer and more robust enterprise communication compared to competing industry solutions, such as Office 365 and Skype for Business". The offer will be sold through channel partners initially, with Agosto signing up as the first partner. After the US, the offer will launch in Canada and the UK soon.

The new option consists of a pop-up that displays a mobile user's name and profile image, and that specifies the location and device involved in the attempted sign-in.
