Antenna SubMillimetre Waves Engineer

2014-08-07 17:41:53| Space-careers.com Jobs RSS

Ajilon Technology Aerospace is looking for an Antenna SubMillimetre Waves Engineer E3 for an opportunity at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands General tasks to be performed The antenna section provide the antenna support to all space applications being Telecommunication, Navigation, Earth Observation Science and human Spaceflight. The technical domain of expertise can be seen through the different activitiesproductsinstruments that are covered by the section Reflector antennas. Feed systems including multifrequency and high power capability. Array antennas direct radiating or associated with a reflector. Frequency and polarisation sensitive surfaces. Passive and Active Beam Forming Networks. Fixed and mobile user terminal. Low gain antennas. Submillimetre wave instruments and technologies. Antenna analysis and optimisation with knowledge on antenna and components modelling tools POS, GRASP, HFSS, .... Antenna and payload measurement and test techniques. The contractor will report to the Head of the Antenna and Submillimetre Wave Section of the Electromagnetics and Space environment Division. The general responsibilities of the contractor will be in two main areas The contractor will be preparing and monitoring Research and Development activities in the field of Antennas. A diverse range of tasks will have to be carried out by the contractor within the above activity domain, encompassing hardware, software and system aspects. The contractor will provide antenna technical support to ESA projects. This includes inhouse design and tradeoff studies to support both developments and reviews. Tasks will require the analysis and design of reflector antennas and arrays and the calculation of the interference effects between antennas and the spacecraft structure. Note that for these two areas, the contractor will have to support all antenna development stages from design, analysis up to measurements. When in charge of research and development or project support, the contractor will handle direct interfaces with the prime activity contractors, participate in progress meetings and reviews, as requested, and provide appropriate feedback on the achieved progress and discussions. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required Background and expertise covering several of the technical domains described in the General tasks section above. Knowledge of antenna Space constraints at RF, mechanical, thermal and environmental levels gained from the handling of Flight Model development or RD development at high TRL level. Knowledge of antenna industrial manufacturing and testing processes. Expertise in using antenna modelling tools GRASP8, POS4, CHAMP as a minimum. Knowledge regarding antenna testing. As per Job Class with at least 10 years proven industrial experience in the field. Please send your CV to ajilon.esaajilon.nl Need more information? Huge waves measured for first time in Arctic Ocean

2014-08-02 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Hannah Hickey: As the climate warms and sea ice retreats, the North is changing. An ice-covered expanse now has a season of increasingly open water that is predicted to extend across the whole Arctic Ocean before the middle of this century. Storms thus have the potential to create Arctic swell - huge waves that could add a new and unpredictable element to the region. A University of Washington researcher made the first study of waves in the middle of the Arctic Ocean, and detected house-sized waves during a...

Climate Change Brings Heat Waves and Cold Snaps

2014-08-01 00:04:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Nature World: While climate change is usually associated with warming temperatures, new research indicates that the planet will experience heat waves as well as cold snaps in the coming years. About 97 percent of scientists, at this point, agree that the temperature of the planet is rising because of human-related activities such as the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. But until now, they didn't know the degree of variability surrounding that increase - meaning the difference between hot and cold...

16-foot Waves Measured Arctic Ocean Where Once Only Ice

2014-07-31 00:02:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

National Geographic: Sixteen-foot waves are buffeting an area of the Arctic Ocean that until recently was permanently covered in sea ice-another sign of a warming climate, scientists say. Because wave action breaks up sea ice, allowing more sunlight to warm the ocean, it can trigger a cycle that leads to even less ice, more wind, and higher waves. (See "Shrinking Arctic Ice Prompts Drastic Change in National Geographic Atlas.") Scientists had never measured waves in the Beaufort Sea, an area north of Alaska, until...
