Commonwealth Bank of Australia profit rises 14%

Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the country's largest lender by market value, reported a 14% jump in first-quarter earnings as bad debt charges continued to fall and record-low interest rates spurred demand for home loans. Net profit was roughly 2.4 billion Australian dollars in the three months through September, the Sydney-based bank said Wednesday.
