For one of our main customers ESAESTEC, located in the Netherlands, we are currently looking for a Passive Components Engineer, who will give support within the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management in the area of Product Assurance Safety in the Components Technology Section. Tasks and Responsibilities You will report to the Component Technology Section Head. You will support TECQTC ESA Staff Member Passive Component Engineer in the domain of Passive Component RF and non RF which covers resistors, capacitors, connectors cables, optical connectors relays, switches, circulators, isolators, oscillators, as well as piezo quartz materials, etc. The emphasis being on the device physics of standard passive technologies as well as a thorough appreciation of the emerging technologies. The specific duties of the post include o Support for provision of expert technical support to ESA programmes, National Space Agencies and European Space Industry concerning the selection, characterisation, evaluation, qualification and application of passive components for space applications. o Assistance to the technical assessment of parts nonconformances and participation in manufacturer audits. o Assistance in the technical assessment and monitoring of European Passive component manufacturers. o Support to the determination of technology needs of ESA projects, defining technology study activities and the preparation and evaluation of research proposals in the relevant technology domain. o Support to formulation and management of technology programmes for the Agencys foreseen requirements for passive components. o Support to standardization activities w.r.t. ESCC and ESCC working groups for the coordination of passive components development activities including the definition, review and maintenance of component engineering standards and specifications. Experience and education A University degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related specialisation, related to the EEE Component area. Preferably 5 years of relevant professional work experience in an Industrial, Academic or RD environment. Qualifications and experience of working in an integrated project team. English proficiency . DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of the Components Technology Section. The Section is responsible for activities in the field of Electrical, Electronic and Electromechanical EEE components. In addition, the Section provides support in all phases of component development, from process definition to qualification and flight. The Component Engineer provides support in the area of hybrid components and generic component packaging activities. The major technologies, processes and techniques to be covered by this post will be thin and thick film technologies with integrated and discrete passive and active components as well as the associated packaging, sealing, die attach and wiring techniques. Furthermore, emerging nonhermetic packaging techniques are covered by these posts. In addition, the incumbent will provide product assurance PA support to the research and development RD activities primarily in the areas covered by ECSSSTQ60. Support will also be provided in the areas covered by ECSSSTQ70, in close collaboration with Materials and Processes experts. The specific duties of the post will include providing expert technical support to ESA projects in terms of the selection and application of hybrid components for space projects assessing hybrid parts and packaging nonconformances technical assessment and monitoring of European hybrid space manufacturers and Assembly and Test Houses ATH determining ESA technology needs and associated roadmaps and defining and managing technology study activities providing technical support to the related standards mainly ECSS and ESCC systems as well as to ESCC audits defining and monitoring the work to be performed by the ESA Materials and Components Laboratory tailoring the PA and Safety requirements to ESA RD activities and supporting the followup of these requirements initiating research and study activities in relation to PA requirements and techniques, to tools and integrated engineering process methodologies and to risk management methods for RD programmes assessing the achievements of the Directorates RD activities by evaluating the achieved Technology Readiness Level TRL for all phases of RD activities and developing further methodology in the field contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in physics, electronics or a related subject. Furthermore, a good knowledge of device physics and failure modes, preferably related to hybrid and packaging technologies, is required. Substantial professional experience in the domain of EEE components and PA engineering is required in at least one of the following areas RD, manufacturing, development and testing. This should be complemented with relevant experience in PA activities. A good knowledge of space engineering requirements and related standards and specifications ECSS and ESCC systems is required. Candidates should demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, be able to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. They should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. The postholder is required to maintain hisher technical competence by monitoring the technological and commercial evolution in the EEE domain and for Product Assurance practices. The work involves close cooperation with European partners in the ESCC system and with international partners e.g. NASA and JAXA. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a university degree or equivalent qualification in ElectricalElectronic Engineering or Physics as well as substantial experience in the specification, application and procurement of components for aerospace applications. Familiarity with ESA PA requirements and national and international standards for EEE components is required as well. Applicants should have good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to achieve solutions in line with team objectives.
