Sea Surface Temperature Senior Scientist Key Tasks and Responsibilities As part of the Oceanography Team in the Technical and Science Support Department, you will have the following responsibilities Support to the verification and validation oflevel2 products Support to verification and calibration activities for level1 products Support to the development of new tools for calibration andor validation as well as utilisation of existing tools Support to the development of new tools for product processing monitoring as well as utilisation of existing tools Investigation of anomalies and issues related to Level 1 and Level 2 product quality Support to the setup and operation of product quality monitoring and reporting tools Contribution to the analysis, assessment and maintenance of L 1L2 marine satellite data processors and algorithms Contribution to scientific development of algorithms to support CaiN al activities Contribution to the execution of scientific support studies. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and extensive relevant experience University degree in remote sensing, oceanography, meteorology, physics, or equivalent Good interpersonal skills in support of team work Satellite Sea Surface Temperature andor visible and infrared data sets Knowledge of the precursor mission to Sentinel3 SLSTR Calibration and validation of remote sensing products Development of calibration andor product validation methods Operational satellite data processing Scientific programming language skills including C, IDLIPVWave, ENVI or equivalent and optionally Fortran, Python Skills in writing technical and scientific documents Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Sea Surface Temperature Scientist. Tasks and Responsibilities The activities of the key person will include scientific and engineering aspects related to the scientific support to both SLSTR Levell Radiance and Brightness Temperature products and Level2 Sea Surface Temperature products. This will include contributions to the scientific development, maintenance, processors, calibration, validation, verification, routine monitoring and offline analysis of Levell and Level2 SLSTR marine data products in support of the Copernicus Sentinel3 marine mission. The requested support is for the Sentinel3 SLSTR optical mission product chains, but aligning with the other marine activities relating to the mandatory missions. Remotely sensed marine data also originates from the current and future EUMETSA T mandatory satellite programs EPS, EPSSG, MSG, MTG. Several marine products are currently already in operations or are in development from sensors such as A VHRR and IASI on Metop and SEVIRI on MSG and may contribute to the Copernicus services. Such data may be needed to support the validation of Sentinel3 SLSTR data, through continuous intercomparison of collocated products. The successful candidate will work in a matrix structure providing crossdivisional support to the Copernicus Sentinel3 Operations Team and will be a member of the oceanography team of experts and scientists of the RSPMAsection of the Technical and Science Support Department. The support will involve crossdivisional interactions and interface with experts in various disciplines system engineering, instruments, operations, science, as well as CalNal experts outside of EUMETSAT. Requirements Essentials The key person shall have the following mandatory experience and background University degree in remote sensing, oceanography, meteorology, physics, or equivalent Good interpersonal skills in support of team work A 5 year or longer experience with satellite Sea Surface Temperature andor visible and infrared data sets Knowledge of the precursor mission to Sentinel3 SLSTR Handson experience with the calibration and validation of remote sensing products Hands on experience with the development of calibration andor product validation methods Experience with operational satellite data processing Very good 5 years or longer scientific programming language skills including C, IDLIPVWave, ENVI or equivalent and optionally Fortran, Python Skills in writing technical and scientific documents Fluency in English is mandatory as this is the working language at EUMETSAT. The candidate must be able to work effectively in this language.
