For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Solaris Linux System Engineer. Main responsibilities Tasks and Responsibilities The position aims to support existing EUMETSAT Operational systems, and possibly operation preparation and handover of future programmes. As a member of the Computer Systems Management team, you will provide support to Ground Segment Commissioning and Routine Operations. The duties range from the support to the operation of the UNIXbased ground segment facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This includes the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. You will perform the following tasks installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimize performance analysis, planning and performance of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems monitoring of the system performance, investigation into HW and system SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backup procedures liaison with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions administration of user accounts support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilization of system resources implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated and or controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades provision of standbyoncall support provision of support, as required, to critical operations. As an essential part of the tasks above, you should generate and maintain documentation. This may comprise writing and reviewing requirement and design specifications, change proposals, preparing documents supporting procurements, reviewing data packages belonging to technical inspections and reviews, writing and reviewing IT architecture and design, writing design evaluation reports, writing reviewing reports, test reports and overall status reports Ideal candidate Requirements In addition to having a university degree or equivalent, you should have at least 5 years of experience in assessing and administrating computer systems and be very experienced in IT system design. The experience shall have been made in an operational or production environment, driven by high availability requirements. Essentials Proven knowledge and handson experience with the following is mandatory extensive experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed systems expert knowledge and a significant work experience of the Solaris and Linux operating systems Redhat, SLES good experience in the installation and administration of Oracle Databases good IT system design skills good understanding of incident and problem management technical documentation skills experience in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. You should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with as many as possible of the following skills and system software environments TCPIP internetworking and the related network protocols and applications, e.g. NIS, NFS, DNS, SNMP, FTP high availability software like Sun Cluster, Veritas Cluster or any other administration and installation of Oracle Databases Experience in virtualization solutions, e.g. VMWare. Desirables Experience in the installation, administration and troubleshooting on some of the following shall be considered as an advantage IBM computers running AIX RAID arrays EMC SAN Fabrics Brocade Backup and recovery systems Knowledge of Windows operating systems. It is also an advantage if you are able to carry out basic hardware support like installing interface cards or physically setting up networks. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. Because of the special support role good communications skills and stress resistance are essential for the job. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language. Linux Lite 3.0 is anything but what its name implies. It is a full-featured operating system that lets you get down to serious business right out of the box. It is one of the few out-of-the-box experiences I have had testing Linux distros in which I actually was set up and working in less than five minutes. Linux Lite runs only the lightweight Xfce desktop environment.

OpenSwitch Moves Under Linux Foundation Umbrella

OpenSwitch last year began as a joint project of Hewlett Packard Enterprises, Broadcom, VMware, Accton, Intel and Arista.
