There are 64 OSS PCIe Gen3 x16 adapters and cables between OSS servers and OSS High Density Compute Accelerators (HDCA), each containing 16 NVIDIA® Tesla® K80 GPU accelerators and 32 Mellanox EDR 100Gbs InfiniBand adapters and cables connecting GPUs through 36-port InfiniBand switch. PCIe expansion systems provide high-speed connectivity between CPU and IO cards.

IBM Roadrunner, which was the world's fastest supercomputer as recently as June 2009, and the first supercomputer to hit 1 petaflop, is now obsolete and has been shut down. At a cost of $120 million and with a lifetime of just five years, you might accuse the Department of Energy of wastefulness -- but shutting down Roadrunner is actually a thrifty, cost-saving measure.
DoE calls for 30 petaflop supercomputer, invites proposals from all comers

The DoE wants to start deploying 10-30 petaflop systems in the next few years and it's calling for companies to submit manufacturing and infrastructure bids. These next-generation systems are meant to bridge the gap between current multiprocessing technology and the substantial advances required to realize exascale computing in the next 10-20 years.
