The Transportation Safety Board says a natural gas pipeline that exploded in Manitoba last year had a crack that formed at the time of its construction more than 50 years ago. The federal agency launched an investigation after a TransCanada pipeline near the southern Manitoba community of Otterburne ruptured on Jan. 25, 2014, allowing natural gas to escape and burn for 12 hours.

Atlanta law firm King & Spalding LLP is blasting allegations that it tried to help General Motors Corp. cover up defective ignition switches. On June 12, the Texas attorney who is leading litigation against GM over the deaths and injuries caused by the automaker's defective ignition switches charged that King & Spalding, which served as GM's outside counsel, "went along with the cover-up" to help GM "keep this defect secret."
