Last week in telecoms: earnings season kicked off, Liberty Global steps in to save Sunrise deal, BT starts brand campaign

(Telecompaper) The Telecompaper European Telecom Services index ended week 42 up 1.2 percent, ahead of the EuroStoxx 50 index (+0.3%). Tele Columbus gained 14 percent in an apparent recovery. Earnings season was kicked off and a number of M&A deals moved forward. Private company Eir, controlled by Iliad's founder, launched an aggressive promotion on the Irish mobile market and BT kicked off a large brand campaign.

Last week in telecoms: Cellnex major takeover, Vodafone cuts costs, KPN new commercial strategy and BT up sharply

(Telecompaper) Last week saw Cellnex agree a major takeover, while Vodafone kicked off a cost savings program and KPN potentially made a big shift in its commercial strategy. Overall, the European telecoms services sector performed well, as per our related index, which was up 2.1 percent in week 41. Still, this was significantly behind the EuroStoxx 50's sharp 3.6 percent rise. Forthnet (+16%) and Go Internet (-9.8%) were the micro cap outliers. BT's gain of 12 percent was the biggest large cap leap.

Electricity Company of Ghana plans to instal fibre in conjunction with telecoms providers

(Telecompaper) The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that it intends to venture into telecommunications and internet service provision, ITWeb reported. ECG managing director Samuel Boakye-Appiah said that the company would use its network to install fibre in collaboration with telecom firms and that its infrastructure would be used to offer data and internet services.
