(Telecompaper) The European telecoms marktet was particularly eventful in week 19, but a downturn couldn't be prevented against the backdrop of an overall market downturn. The Telecompaper Stock Index (TPSI) European Telecoms Services was down 1.2 percent, against a 4.0 percent loss for the EuroStoxx 50 index. Iliad was the winner, on the sale of much of its tower portfolio, followed closely by its counterpart Cellnex, with a string of deals in its pocket. Tele Columbus was the week's biggest loser, without significant news, losing 11 percent, followed by BT.

(Telecompaper) Apart from some minor M&A, last week's news mainly related to first quarter earnings reports. The Telecompaper Stock Index European Telecoms Services was down 0.4 percent for the week, versus a 0.1 percent gain for the EuroStoxx 50 index. Altice Europe (+8.9%) was the winner and Gamma Communications (-4.9%) gave up some of the gains of recent weeks. Both are doing fine in the year-to-date perspective, with gains of 69 and 46 percent, respectively.

(Telecompaper) Last week's absolute outperformer was KCOM, after it accepted a takeover bid. Other significant news related to network sharing in Spain and a dozen companies reported their Q1 earning. Proximus (-5.4% for the week) was among the weakest shares, apparently without significant news. The Telecompaper Stock Index European Telecoms Services was down 0.3 percent in week 17, versus an almost unchanged EuroStoxx 50 index.
