Deutsche Telekom misses European sales targets - report

(Telecompaper) Deutsche Telekom's European units have missed their sales and profit targets for the first two months of 2013, according to internal documents seen by 'Wirtchaftswoche'. According to the monthly reports, sales from its European subsidiaries are EUR 48 million below target, with operating profit missing targets by EUR 37 million. The European business generated sales of EUR 2.2 billion in January and February, down by 6.7 percent year-on-year. This fall is higher than the around 5 percent decline previously forecast by Claudia Nemat, board member responsible for Europe. Operating profit was EUR 707 million for the two months, compared to EUR 777 million generated a year earlier and EUR 743 million projected.

Deutsche Telekom unveils real-time map of global cyberattacks

Deutsche Telekom launched a Web portal Wednesday that provides a real-time visualization of cyber attacks detected by its network of sensors placed around the world. The website is called Sicherheitstacho.eu and aims to provide a situational overview of global cyber attack activity. The attack data is collected by 97 sensors known as honeypot systems deployed by the company around the world.

Deutsche Telekom CEO to become CEO of Ziggo

(Telecompaper) Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann will become the CEO of Dutch cable operator Ziggo from 1 January 2014. Obermann will succeed Bernard Dijkhuizen, who will retire. Ziggo said that Obermann's "leadership capacities and broad global experience will help propel Ziggo's long-term growth and service innovation forward." Obermann said he wanted to get closer to the world of media and entertainment. The appointment will be proposed at Ziggo's upcoming AGM on 18 April. Obermann became the CEO of T-Mobile Germany in 2000 and of Deutsche Telekom in 2006. He announced last December that he would step down at Deutsche Telekom at the end of 2013.

Deutsche Telekom, BMW unveil ConnectedDrive Hotspot

(Telecompaper) Deutsche Telekom and BMW Group will show how cars can be turned into a WLAN hotspot at CeBIT. This will allow drivers and passengers to simultaneously go online with up to eight WLAN-enabled devices at LTE speeds of up to 100 Mbps. The BMW ConnectedDrive Hotspot will be rolled out initially with car rental company Sixt. From summer 2013, Sixt fleet vehicles will be equipped with the ConnectedDrive Hotspot. For Sixt and Telekom customers, this will be free of charge for the first 12 months.
