Wilmerding-based rail industry supplier Wabtec Corp. has acquired the assets of Track IQ, an Australian manufacturer of wayside sensor systems for the global train industry with annual sales of about $15 million. Office supplies retailer Staples Inc. has agreed with the Federal Trade Commission to extend the review period for its $6.3 billion takeover of Office Depot Inc. The regulator will decide on the deal by Dec. 8, the companies said.

Reuters: Australian exports of commodities such as iron ore and coal face a less-than-average chance of being disrupted by cyclones in the upcoming cyclone season due to the El Nino weather pattern. That would mark a rare beneficial effect from El Nino, which often brings drought to some regions while prompting flooding in others. Blue and Green: An oil spill in the Great Australian Bight from a deep-sea well blowout would be devastating for fisheries and marine life, according to new independent oil spill modelling commissioned by the Wilderness Society.
