EU's clothing imports have begun sharply falling from China in the past year, in line with a surge of unit prices in the country. Bangladesh has benefited from the move out of China in a large number of product categories whereas imports have also surged from other Asian countries, however from a much lower level. Our series of comparison tables offer a comprehensive view of EU clothing imports per HS 4-digit category with volume, value and unit price changes, while market shares are also calculated for each major supplying country. US apparel imports from China have remained strong in the past year, as anticipations of higher US tariffs have boosted shipments and unit values have declined overall. By contrast, other Asian countries like Vietnam are obviously confronted with a rise of their production costs and slowing down exports to the United States. Results have however been radically different, depending on product categories and origins. Our series of statistical tables offer a comprehensive comparison of volume, value and unit value changes per origin and product category in full 2018. The report also includes a detailed comparison of Chinese price trends vs other origins, through a series of indexes.
