Simulations Officer GALILEO MF

Telespazio VEGA Deutschland has been supporting the European Space Industry for over 30 years, including ESA, DLR, EUMETSAT and CNES. Simulations Officers are responsible for developing the training concept and the associated Simulation Plan to train the Mission Control Team, in order to prepare them for the launch or other critical phases of an ESA mission. This includes planning and developing failure cases of increasing difficulty to be introduced into the simulations, in order to train the Mission Control Team in nonnominal operations and application of mission rules. Simulations Officers are also planned to be involved with the operational training of other staff, including but not limited to Ground Operations Managers and ESTRACK Control Centre ECC operators. This position is unlimited and based in Darmstadt, Germany inside ESAESOC European Space Operations Centre. The selected Engineer shall start as soon as possible and the submission deadline for candidates will be 20th of February 2015. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES Familiarisation with both the space and ground segment. Developing general training and simulation activities at ESOC. For a particular mission e.g. GALILEO, the Prime Simulations Officer is responsible for the delivery of training to the Mission Control Team, supported by a Deputy Simulations Officer. The Deputy Simulations Officer is responsible for supporting the prime Simulations Officer in the delivery of training. This includes assistance with simulator breakpoint preparation, testing of contingencies, writing briefing and debriefing messages, and running simulations.. GALILEO LEOPs are being conducted by an integrated ESACNES mission operations team. The simulations officer team is currently composed of 2 CNES and 1 ESOC simulation officers. The prime simulation officer is provided by the agency being in charge of the LEOP, as such prime and deputy position are alternating. Travelling to different locations in Europe is required! QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE University degree in relevant discipline Good professional experience in spacecraft andor operational applications, preferably also in the area of training and simulations. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Good spacecraft knowledge on a subsystem level Experience in working in an operational environment Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems Be fluent in English, both in speech and writing Selfstarter, able to work independently with little or no supervision Proactive and confident personality with good persuasive skills Teamplayer, able to interface with technical and management personnel Wellorganised, able to prioritise and manage several tasks in parallel Familiarity with operational training Familiarity with operational simulators, ideally SimSat Familiarity with satellite control systems, ideally SCOS2000 Familiarity with programmingscripting languages e.g. C, Java, JavaScript DESIRABLE SKILLS Security Clearance in view of later projects Experience in operational training Familiarity with the ESOC working environment and Quality Management System QMS Experience with prelaunch activities and launch campaigns Experience in instructional design methodologies FURTHER DETAILS Due to the Security Requirements of GALILEO In line with Asylum Immigration Legislation, all applicants must be eligible to live and work in the EU. Furthermore, in view of the nature of the work the company is in, all potential employees will undergo stringent reference and identity check Travel is a significant aspect of this service typically oneweeklong missions to CNES, Toulouse, France every two to three weeks, over a period of approx. two months, depending on start date. Thorn SDS is seeking a Simulations Officer to be responsible for developing the training concept and the associated Simulation Plan to train the Mission Control Team, in order to prepare them for the launch or other critical phases of a mission. The key candidate will be accountable for planning and developing failure cases of increasing difficulty to be introduced into the simulations, in order to train the Mission Control Team in nonnominal operations and application of mission rules. The key candidate shall also be involved with the operational training of other staff. All applicants require familiarisation with both the space and ground segment. For a particular mission, the Prime Simulations Officer is responsible for the delivery of training to the Mission Control Team, supported by a Deputy Simulations Officer. The Deputy Simulations Officer is responsible for supporting the prime Simulations Officer in the delivery of training. This includes assistance with simulator breakpoint preparation, testing of contingencies, writing briefing and debriefing messages, and running simulations. The successful candidate shall have good spacecraft knowledge on a subsystem level, experience working within an operational environment along with the ability to understand and accurately predict the behaviour of complex systems. Candidates will have familiarity with operational training, operational simulations ideally simsat, satellite control systems ideally SCOS2000 and programmingscripting languages e.g. C, Java, JavaScript. Due to the high security levels associated with this role all applicants will need to be European citizens. Applicants must be fluent in English, both spoken and written. Experience in any of the following areas would be considered advantageous Operational training, prelaunch activities and launch campaigns, instructional design methodologies and prelaunch activities and launch campaigns. Familiarity with the ESOC working environment and Quality Management System QMS along with knowledge of operations would also be considered to be advantageous. This role will typically require travel for oneweek long missions to CNES, Toulouse, France every 23 weeks, over a period of 2 months. Then after the position will mainly be based in Darmstadt. Thorn SDS has a long standing relationship with ESOC, an element of this position will involve the training of existing Thorn employees.
