USDA Raises Corn Crop Forecast

We old-timers could call this a Timex crop so far: Takes a licking, but keeps on ticking. Such was the news from the U.S. Department of Agriculture last week. That name has been supported as well by reports that last weeks frost damage was not severe. USDA forecasts more soybeans

Freeze warnings have some worried but the sub-$10 per bushel soybean price is more of a concern for a huge crop expected to hit the bins this fall. USDAs Thursday forecast of 3.91 billion bushels surpassed the August projection of 3.81 billion. New-crop ending soybean stocks are projected at 475 million bushels. All those numbers helped keep downward pressure on soybean prices. read more

USDA Encourages Producers to Enroll in Disaster Assistance Programs this Month to Avoid Payment Cuts

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is encouraging livestock producers who have suffered eligible disaster-related losses to sign-up by Sept. 30, or face a cut in disaster payments. Congressionally mandated payment reductions will take place for producers who have not acted before the end of the month. read more
