USDA Resumes Hog Market Reports

Source: National Pork Producers Council USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) yesterday resumed publishing its Market News reports on various commodities, including pork. The reports help producers, processors, consumers and distributors in the sale and purchase of agricultural commodities, “providing current and unbiased, price and sales information to assist in [their] orderly marketing and distribution.” read more

USDA Announces Report Status Due to Federal Shutdown

Source: U.S. Department of Agriculture The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) and World Agricultural Outlook Board (WAOB) have cancelled or postponed publication of selected USDA statistical reports impacted by the lapse in federal funding. NASS's Crop Production and Cotton Ginnings reports and the WAOB's World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) scheduled for Oct. 11 are canceled. The next scheduled release for these reports is Nov. 8, 2013. read more

USDA considers closing plants in salmonella outbreak

The Department of Agriculture will decide "by the close of business today" whether a California chicken-processing plant linked to a nationwide outbreak of antibiotic-resistant salmonella may remain open, officials said.
