Back in the 80s and 90s a slew of licensed video games were being made by big name studios simply to make a buck, and the apathy towards the franchises on which they were based really showed in the gameplay. Those were the days when console games based on TV shows and movies truly unworthy of a game adaptation were being made, and studios were paid to make games about any old thing, even Coca-Cola.

Developers like Ubisoft Montreal and From Software have received a lot of heat from fans over the fact that some of their finished games don't look nearly as good as early gameplay videos made them out to be.
