Overview General tasks related to the role are Support spacecraft and launcher configuration studies for Agency projects. This includes operating CAD tools and participation in Concurrent Design Facility CDF sessions at ESTEC. Support and contribute to the establishment and maintenance of relevant Structures Engineering Standards and Handbooks. Support the generation and setup of structural mathematical models using the finite element method for structural analysis problems for Agency funded projects, taking into account the specific objectives of such analysis, covering all structural materials applied in spacecraft and launchers. Where necessary nonlinear approaches and specific solution sequences shall be applieddeveloped e.g. Nastran SOL 600, Mecano, Abaqus. Perform the analysis, evaluate critically the results and issue relevant documentation covering all analysis steps. Support the generation and setup of mathematical models for structural elastic stability problems for Agency funded projects, taking into account specific requirements attached to this type of analysis. Perform stability analysis leading to the determination of buckling loads and deformations. Where necessary the post buckling behaviour shall be addressed, adequate nonlinear approaches used, and where relevant specific solution sequences shall be developed. Evaluate critically the results, and issue relevant documentation covering all analysis steps. Support the generation and setup of mathematical models for structural thermoelastic stability problems for Agency funded projects, taking into account specific requirements attached to this type of analysis. Perform the interpolation of the temperature maps as resulting from thermal analysis for their employment in finite element structural analysis. Perform thermoelastic analysis leading to the determination of loads and deformations, evaluate the outcome in terms of margins of safety and stability budgets, evaluate critically the results and issue relevant documentation covering all analysis steps. Where necessary nonlinear approaches shall be considered and specific solution sequences shall be developed. Evaluate critically the results and the loads and issue relevant documentation. Support the preparation and execution of mechanical tests modal survey, sine, random, acoustics, microvibration, shock, etc for spacecraft launchers of Agency projects by performing andor reviewing analytical predictions and procedures. Perform modal identification of the test data, evaluate critically the results and make usage of these results for updating structural finite element models. Perform assessments of shock response data. Take into account the specific objectives of such analyses and where necessary nonlinear analyses shall be performed and specific solution sequences shall be developed. Issue relevant documentation covering all analysis steps. Where applicable produce advanced reduced dynamic mathematical models. Specific qualification requirements University degree MSc. in Aerospace or Mechanical engineering. 5 to 10 years experience in the space industry on the mechanical design, development and verification of space segment hardware. Relevant experience within the field of spacecraft and launcher structures design, analysis, verification and testing. Good knowledge in space system engineering, and space engineering standards ECSS. Knowledge and experience of structures numerical analysis tools such as Nastran, Patran, Abaqus, ESACRACK etc. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively, autonomously and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment, defining and implementing solutions in line with team and individual objectives, as well as project deadlines. Fluent in the English language spoken and written. Knowledge of another European language is an asset. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration in line with ESA Job Class. Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday. Training to improve efficiency and provide strength for future career are of course included. Aurora assist with relocation both with support and financially. Client and Location We are currently looking for candidates to lend support in the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management onsite at ESTEC in the Mechanisms Engineering Department. You will lend support to Agency projects, technology research activities and evaluations of industrial contractors documentation and test verifications. Tasks and Responsibilities The candidate shall have the following tasks and responsibilities Fluid Structures, Vibroacoustic and Shock Modelling and Analysis You shall be responsible for the generation and setup of dynamic mathematical models for fluidstructure interaction effects, vibroacoustic and shock response for spacecraft, launchers and instruments of Agency funded projects using the Finite Element, the Boundary Element, and the Statistical Energy Analysis method where applicable, taking into account the specific objectives of such analyses for incompressible and compressible fluids. The above shall include but not be limited to tanks with without membranes, solar arrays, spacecraft subsystem and system models. Shall further perform the dynamic analysis modes, frequency transient acoustic responses shock responses, evaluate critically the results and issue relevant documentation covering all analysis steps. Shall take into account the specific objectives of such analyses and where necessary nonlinear approaches shall be considered and specific solution sequences shall be developed. Shall support the Agency in the definition and implementation of technology developments in this area aiming at enhancing relevant tools and methodologies. Dynamic Test Data Analysis and Correlation You shall be responsible for the support to the Agency in operating analysis tools for the analysis of dynamic test data modal survey, frequency transient responses, shock responses for spacecraft launchers of Agency funded projects and comparison with analytical predictions. Shall further perform where relevant modal identification of the test data, evaluate critically the results and make usage of these results for updating structural finite element models. Shall perform where relevant, assessment of shock response data. Shall take into account the specific objectives of such analyses and where necessary nonlinear approaches shall be considered and specific solution sequences shall be developed. Shall issue relevant documentation covering all analysis steps. Where applicable he shall produce advanced reduced dynamic mathematical models. Generation of Load Cases for Static and Dynamic Structural Dimensioning The Contractor shall be responsible for the generation and setup of load cases for static and dynamic structural analysis design and tests for Agency funded projects. Heshe shall make use of mathematical model responses, Launcher Coupled Analysis results, MultiBody Dynamics analysis tools, as well as test flight data and be familiar with spacecraft design practices. Heshe shall evaluate critically the results and the loads and issue relevant documentation. Furthermore the following tasks are included The Contractor shall support the activities of development contracts regarding the above areas, including direct interfaces with the prime contractors, participate in progress meetings and reviews, as requested, and provide appropriate feedback on the achieved progress and discussions. The Contractor Personnel responsible for the data processing, modal identification and structural model update shall be senior system analysts with several years of experience in the respective above fields applied to light structures dynamic behaviour and modelling. The Contractor Personnel shall be a system analyst with several years of experience in the field of structural dynamics, fluidstructure interaction and vibroacoustics, including modelling and model reduction techniques. HeShe shall have as well adequate knowledge in the employment of the relevant software, such as Nastran, Patran, Rayon, AutSEA, DynaWorks, SIMPACK, DCAP, FABE. Some experience with CAD software such as Catia5 would be an advantage. Additionally, some experience on fracture control and, in particular on fracture crack growth and fatigue analyses using ESACRACK and ESAFATIGUE would be an asset.
