LG said its V series will focus on 5G going forward, with the V50 to be introduced at MWC as the first 5G device in its range. ZTE announced it will launch its next Axon flagship smartphone with 5G.

Ericsson unveils new 5G hardware and software ahead of MWC Americas

(Telecompaper) Ericsson has announced the forthcoming launch of a range of new additions to its 5G hardware and software portfolio, including new radio access network (RAN) compute architecture, spectrum sharing between 4G and 5G bands and street macro transport technology. The new RAN Compute portfolio is designed to enable easier distribution of RAN functions including beamforming and radio control, said the company. It includes all the current basebands in addition to four new RAN Compute products that provide up to three times the capacity of current basebands.

Spain pays out EUR 165 mln in subsidies to keep MWC in Barcelona - report

(Telecompaper) The Spanish government has guaranteed a total of up to EUR 165 million in "non-refundable" subsidies to the GSMA in order to ensure that the Mobile World Congress remains in Barcelona until at least 2023, according to unnamed sources cited by El Mundo. The figure covers the years 2011 to 2023, with the Spanish state, the city of Barcelona and the regional Catalan government (Generalitat) contributing in equal parts. The government also promised the GSMA that companies contributing to the organisation of the event, including Telefonica, would enjoy "the maximum fiscal benefits", said the report.
