SK Telecom demos 5G system at 20.5 Gbps at MWC

(Telecompaper) South Korean operator SK Telecom is showcasing its latest 5G system including radio, core and device at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016. In partnership with Nokia, SK Telecom has demonstrated live 20.5 Gbps transmission speed over the air.

Telstra's new network will deliver superfast speeds, and you'll be able to take advantage with your existing phone via a new hotspot device. Telstra will launch a 1Gbps network and compatible portable hotspot device this year, as well as a Voice over Wi-Fi product for continuous coverage in those hard-to-reach places at home or work.

Samsung launches Galaxy S7 smartphones at MWC

(Telecompaper) Samsung has unveiled its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The S7 offers a 5.1-inch screen and the S6 Edge a larger 5.5 inches, both Super Amoled with 1440x2560 pixel resolution (QHD), the same as the S6 family. In addition, the devices feature an 'always on' screen for checking notifications or the clock while using minimal battery, and the phones are dust- and waterproof with the IP68 certification. These are also the first to run Samsung's Exynos 8 processor with 64-bit architecture. Pre-orders for the smartphones start 23 February, and the phone will go on sale in shops around the world from 11 March.
