United Airlines mechanics could be about to go on strike

United Airlines aviation maintenance technicians and related support personnel demonstrate outside the company's annual shareholders' meeting at the Willis Tower on June 10, 2015 in Chicago, Illinois. Maintenance workers at United Airlines overwhelmingly rejected a new contract offer, their union said Tuesday, adding it will seek approval from U.S. regulators to strike.

ASTM International Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture has honored Richard E. Link, Ph.D., a professor at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, with the Fracture Mechanics Medal. A member of ASTM and E08 since 1985, Link received award in recognition of his outstanding work in advancement of fracture mechanics technology and contributions to related international standard test methods. He is past vice chairman of the committee and currently chairs Subcommittee on Fracture Mechanics.
